Flower Glossary

Succulents

Succulents are a broad category that includes hundreds of different types and varieties, each with its own specific needs for optimal growth and health. However, they share many similarities that allow us to describe the group as a whole. Succulents are plants that store water in their leaves, roots, or stems, enabling them to survive and tolerate periods of low water availability. In nature, this special ability helps them endure droughts or times when water is scarce. Succulents are a great choice for those who want a real plant in their home or office but prefer low-maintenance care. Finding the right balance between too much and too little water can sometimes be a challenge, but once mastered, most succulents will thrive with minimal attention, making them perfect for anyone looking to earn their green thumb.

Most succulents require bright, indirect light or dappled sunlight for proper growth. They also need well-draining soil, as soggy roots can harm them. Be sure to use containers with drainage holes to allow excess water to escape. During the summer months, succulents often do well outside and can benefit from a dose of sunshine. Depending on the variety, succulents have different preferences for temperature and humidity, so it’s helpful to consider their natural habitats and try to mimic those conditions. Regardless of the type, succulents make an excellent addition to any home, office, garden, or container. With countless varieties to choose from, these special little plants can live a long time and add a vibrant touch of green wherever they are placed.

Available year-round in our extensive artificial collection, and seasonally as live plants, succulents are always a smart and stylish choice for your next decorating project.
